The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has ordered Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), Bharti Airtel Limited and other telecom operators to immediately clear all dues to the government arising from the Supreme Court’s (SC) order.

As per the letter written to the telcos by DoT, the operators have been asked to pay the balance adjusted gross revenue (AGR) amount without any further delay.

However, DoT did not specify the additional amount that operators are required to pay.

To this end, the government has also sought the details and explanations of operators’ self-assessment of dues.

As per a recent announcement made in the Lok Sabha, the government has received Rs 158.96 billion from telecom companies in payment towards their AGR dues. Consequently, the remaining dues yet to be paid to the government sum up to Rs 1.3 trillion.
