The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is reportedly considering waiving off the penalty for not meeting the minimum rollout obligations (MROs) in the 26 GHz or millimeter wave (mmWave) band of 5G spectrum.

DoT had earlier issued show cause notices to Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) and Adani Data Networks for not meeting the 5G MROs in the band. However, after receiving feedback from the companies regarding the lack of ecosystem for the mmWave band, DoT is deliberating the issue again.

As per industry sources, a final decision in this regard is expected to be taken soon. DoT has also sought suggestions on the issue from its technical arm, Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC).
