The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited?s (BSNL) board to act on an enquiry report, which examined the operator?s Wi-Max deals and submit its reply to DoT by April 30.

In January 2008, BSNL had selected Soma Networks to roll out Wi-Max services in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Andhra Pradesh. In early 2010, four firms, Teracom, Take Solutions, Adishwar India and Ampoules were selected by BSNL through a bidding process for offering Wi-Max services in 16 circles.

In its report, the DoT committee said that the terms offered by the franchisees were not in the financial interest of BSNL and that the deals needed to be reviewed. Meanwhile, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), which is also looking in to the matter, has to submit its report by April 30.
