The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has amended the scope of infrastructure providers category-I (IP-1) registrations. Earlier, sharing of assets such as dark fibres, right of way, duct space and mobile towers of telecom infrastructure companies was allowed on mutually agreed terms and conditions with the other parties.

As per the amendment, IP-1 registration holders shall share the aforementioned infrastructure with the entities as may be specified by the government in the interest of national security and public interest as per the terms and conditions which may be specified by the government.

According to Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA), the amendment in the scope of IP-1 registration has been addressed with regard to the implementation of the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project (NCRMP) and ensuring the safety of the citizens.
