
The Department of Posts (DoP) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited have jointly launched a mobile money transfer service.
The service was launched by Kapil Sibal, Minister for Communications and IT for fund transfers between Delhi and Kerala.
This service enables immediate transfer of funds from one person to another through post offices using mobile phones provided by BSNL. However, the sender and recipient could be on any other operator’s network. Currently, the service is enabled at 42 cities across four states including Punjab, Delhi, Bihar and Kerala.
Commenting on the launch of the service, R.K. Upadhyay, chief managing director, BSNL, says, “BSNL is committed to provide the latest and innovative value added services at par with and ahead of competition. In order to give a boost to the government’s commitment towards financial inclusion, BSNL is bringing in global technology to provide this innovative service by tying up with DoP. The launch of the mobile money transfer service of India Post in collaboration with BSNL will prove to be very useful service for the aam aadmi. The reach of BSNL telecom network and presence of branch post offices in rural and remote areas will make it readily accessible with most affordable.”
The service has been operationalised by Maverick Mobile Solutions Private Limited, BSNL’s technology partner, based on Gemalto’s platform.
