The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has rejected a proposal by telecom operators to provide 5G services within airport premises using low radio frequency power output. Telecom operators had earlier proposed to provide 5G services within airports without transmitting any signal to the airstrip or the runway.

Owing to the fear that the frequency can interfere with aircraft altimeter and cause disruptions, the DGCA rejected the proposal. The DGCA is currently replacing all aircraft altimeters to avoid interference.
