The 4G trials of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have encountered another setback as a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has suggested 128 variations in 4G equipment requirements, with the greatest deviations recommended in radio network specifications (71).

As per industry reports, TCS has suggested the following deviations: core (18), interworking (6), deferred core (13), and deferred radio (20).

According to BSNL, accepting these deviations could jeopardise its business prospects and customer experience. It has written to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) asking whether to accept the deviations or not.

Moreover, the deviations include a few critical issues that cannot be compromised for testing the equipment under Proof of Concept (PoC) or trials considering the same equipment will be commercially deployed for rolling out 4G services after the trials.

BSNL highlighted that other bidders have not submitted any deviation document, implying that their product complies with specifications and is ready for commercial deployment.
