The deregulation of the telecom sector and the entry of foreign investors, particularly those with an already huge presence in the region, have reportedly fuelled growth of Bangladesh’s mobile phone market. The country’s mobile subscriber base is expected to touch 18 million by 2006, after registering 100 per cent growth in 2004 and 137 per cent growth in 2005. The entry of foreign operators has been particularly helpful, as they have, together with local partners, helped improve the existing wireless infrastructure.
