The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is of the view that there should be no hike in tariffs following the completion of spectrum auctions. The DoT has further stated that though the government has collected about Rs 1.1 trillion from spectrum auctions, India has spectrum available at one of the cheapest rates when compared to some of the developed countries.

The Ministry of Communications and IT and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) have meanwhile stated that tariffs are likely to go up post auctions. While the ministry is of the view that tariffs will go up by 1.3 paise per minute, TRAI has contested that the likely hike will be in the range of 6-7 paise per minute.
