The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has appointed M Akhaya as the Chief Vigilance Officer for an initial period of three years. His tenure will be further extendable by two years in the same department or three years through shifting to another department.

Akhaya is a 1988-batch Indian Police Service officer of the Odisha cadre. At DoT, he will be responsible for detecting and preventing corruption and other malpractices within the department. He will also be responsible for ensuring speedy processing of vigilance cases at all stages.
