The Ministry of Defence signed a contract worth Rs 14.76 billion with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of five ground-based mobile electronic systems (GBMES) for the Indian Army. The systems will have a minimum indigenous content of 72 per cent and the deal has been signed under the Buy (Indian-indigenously designed, developed and manufactured) category.
The networked intelligence system is capable of detecting, classifying and locating all types of radars, and can also intercept and analyse communication signals. The GBMES enhances the country’s situational awareness and air defence capabilities, BEL said in a regulatory filing.
