The Digital Communications Commission is set to meet tomorrow to discuss relief measures for the industry in the wake of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) crisis.
The finance ministry and DoT is reported to have already started discussions on possible steps to prevent the sector from becoming a two private player market.
Earlier, Vodafone Idea had a series of meetings with top government officials from telecom and finance ministries to discuss the future course of action.
Amongst various options being considered, one proposal is to set up a fund which will lend money to telcos at a concessional rate to repay their dues. The government is also considering a revised payment plan, which will enable companies to defer payment of penalties and interests in future.
Meanwhile, the DoT has also asked all operators to speed up their self-assessment of AGR related dues and submit documents supporting their calculation.
Bharti Airtel, Tata Teleservices and Vodafone Idea have made partial payments towards their AGR dues last week.
