According to Rakesh Bharti Mittal, chairman, Bharti Infratel the data usage in the country is going to increase rapidly on account of increasing adoption of 3G.
The data usage in the country is going up by 20 to 25 per cent per quarter. As a result, the telecom infrastructure in the urban areas need to be strengthened to cater to this demand.
As per Mittal, the roll out of 4G services in some select circles indicates that within two years 4G networks will proliferate. However, this will require upgradation from operators in terms of enhanced infrastructure and 4G enabled handsets.
The company?s research shows that 4G services are very effective within a radius of about 350 meters and this would require undertaking significant upgrade by the operators in their existing networks. According to Mittal, operators have stopped investing in tower infrastructure by themselves and instead they prefer third party service providers to provide them infrastructure services. This practice has opened up a lot of business opportunities for companies like Bharti Infratel.
