The government is reportedly said to be considering modifications to the data centre certification framework currently under development, with the objective of aligning it to the emerging needs of facilities designed to support the intensive computational demands of artificial intelligence.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is working towards framing national standards for the operations and maintenance of artificial intelligence (AI)-focused data centres, which differ significantly from conventional facilities.
Additionally, the standardisation testing and quality certification directorate under MeitY has been engaged in developing standards for data centre operations and maintenance, a government official said.
Further, industry participants involved in recent consultations noted that while hyperscale operators typically follow their own established frameworks for setting up data centres, the availability of uniform standards would be particularly beneficial for other market players.
