As per industry sources, under the phase-II of ‘Mobile Services in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) Affected Areas’ scheme, work has been awarded for installation of 2,542 mobile towers including 483 towers in Odisha.

As per the government, under phase-I of the LWE scheme, out of 261 towers that were sanctioned, 256 mobile towers have been installed in Odisha. Five towers could not be installed due to maoist activities and forest clearance permission.

The tele-density in the service area of Odisha in rural and urban areas as on September 30, 2021 stood at 61.87 per cent and 144.14 per cent, respectively.

In Odisha, the phase-II of the BharatNet project is being implemented in a state-led model through the state government under which, 2,485 GPs have been made service ready out of 2,946 planned GPs, as of November 30, 2021. On adding phase-I and phase-II, total 6,313 GPs have been made service ready in Odisha.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), there were a total 21.1 million broadband subscribers in Odisha on October 21, 2021. Likewise, the state has 50.15 internet subscribers per 100 population. This percentage is 40.61 in rural areas and 91.98 in urban areas of Odisha.
