The Prime Minister?s Office (PMO) has formed a committee for the purpose of chalking out a solution, wherein the Government can contribute partly to the pension of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) employees. This comes after MTNL said that it may find it difficult to meet this obligation due to its mounting losses.
The PMO has intervened after this issue turned controversial, with possible implication on other public sector companies in sectors where there are wage differentials. With several departments expressing differences of opinion over a bailout for MTNL, with regard to pension, the PMO has said that the Committee of Ssecretaries (CoS) must resolve the issue and place possible solutions before the Union Cabinet.
