The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has asked for the government’s intervention against the illegal sale of Wi-Fi 6E wireless routers in India via e-commerce websites and online platforms to consumers.

In a letter to Dr Neeraj Mittal, secretary (T), Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Lt. Gen. Dr. S.P. Kochhar, director general, COAI, has asked the government to take strict measures to put a complete ban on the sale of Wi-Fi products operating in the 6 GHz band, whether offline or online, through a notification to the sellers.

COAI added that the utilisation of such Wi-Fi devices operating in the 6 GHz band will render customers responsible for these unauthorised transmissions, placing the burden of liability on consumers.

Furthermore, according to the data presented by COAI, TP-Link, Deco, Netgear, and Google, and more, are the vendors selling their Wi-Fi 6E routers in India via platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart, Moglix, and others.
