The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has urged the newly constituted committee of secretaries (CoS) to address the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) issue on a priority basis and suggest immediate relief measures within 60 days.

As per COAI, the stipulated payment timeline is a mere three months.

The industry is requesting the government for waiver of interest and penalty amounts as it believes that penalties should be pursued in case of wilful default and malafide intent which is not the case in the current issue.

Further, the industry body has requested the government to consider the original amount of AGR dues, sans the interest and penalty components.

COAI is planning to soon hold a meeting with the telecom minister to discuss these issues in detail.
