COAI is seeking to extend the number of towers to be set up in rural India with support from the Universal Service Obligation (USO) Fund from 10,000 to 25,000. DoT has recently concluded a tender for setting up about 8,000 towers in rural India.
Meanwhile, the COAI has asked the government to extend support from the USO Fund for subsidising handsets. The COAI has also asked that the revenue from shared infrastructure be exempted from levies in order to provide further incentives to service providers to share infrastructure.
