Cisco has submitted a proposal to the government for investing $5 billion over the next five years in the country. The proposal, which is in response to the ?Make in India? initiative of the government, highlights Cisco?s intention of setting-up a manufacturing base in India.

Cisco has, however, sought a favorable policy environment in return. The company has requested the government for waiver of tax on royalty payments to make manufacturing in India cost-competitive. Further, it has also sought full market access to the government and defence deals for the products that Cisco manufactures in India.
