
According to Infonetics Research, Cisco led the global carrier Wi-Fi equipment market in 2012, followed by Ruckus Wireless and Ericsson.
As per the firm, these three companies registered significant year-over-year growth in the market. Wi-Fi equipment revenue, including carrier Wi-Fi access points and Wi-Fi hotspot controllers, registered a growth of 53 per cent in 2012.
Infonetics Research expects the global carrier Wi-Fi equipment market to reach $3.9 billion by 2017. The market will be primarily driven by the increasing number of mobile operators deploying carrier Wi-Fi to offload data. The market for dual mode cellular/Wi-Fi access points is also expected to undergo significant growth as increasing number of mobile operators establish carrier Wi-Fi networks.
Going forward, countries in Asia Pacific region especially – China, Indonesia and India-will drive the growth in the Wi-Fi industry.
