US-based equipment maker Cisco Systems has laid off 200 engineers who were working for NDS India, one of its subsidiaries, reportedly due to the company?s efforts for global restructuring. The laying-off of the engineers has been done over the initial half year of 2014.
The move by Cisco can be attributed to the slow growth of NDS business which, according to market analysts, shall grow at 2.14 per cent during 2014-18. These actions are focused on growth investments along with management of costs and inefficiencies. Cisco will also be taking such restructuring actions in the second half of 2014 and these actions will impact up to 6,000 employees of the company globally.
Cisco had integrated NDS India to Cisco Videoscape in 2012. The company had 1,600 engineers at the time of the acquisition.
