Ciena has upgraded the Europe India Gateway (EIG) submarine cable system with an aim to strengthen connectivity between businesses situated in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and India.
The cable has been upgraded with Ciena’s GeoMesh solution, which is powered by WaveLogic Ai coherent optics. The upgrade would add 24.3 Tb/s of information-carrying capacity to the EIG cable, with an efficiency increase of 52 per cent.
EIG transmits significant amount of data among consumers and businesses from India and Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This upgrade will enable EIG to reduce operational costs, space and power requirements while improving reliability by utilising flexible, express wavelengths.
