Chunghwa Telecom is planning to form a joint venture (JV) with the IEC Group of Thailand to offer an intelligent environment service network (IENet) in the country, which controls electricity consumption through an internet-based intelligent network. With a 50 per cent stake in the venture, the Taiwanese operator intends to invest around $3.3 million in it. Reportedly, Chunghwa will lead the marketing department of the JV as it holds the IENet technology. The company is expected to begin offering the service in the second half of 2008. Meanwhile, Chunghwa is also planning to offer telecom services in Cambodia in association with Vietnamese operator Viettel. Chunghwa Telecom has a 30 per cent stake in an internet data storage JV with Viettel.
