China Unicom is set to procure 100 per cent more CDMA mobile phones, to take the figure from 3 million sets to 6 million in 2006.
This is in line with its move to increase its number of CDMA users to achieve a balance in the number of CMDA and GSM users and turn around its loss-making CDMA business. Although the company’s annual net profit increased by 9.7 per cent to RMB 4.93 billion in 2005, its CDMA business suffered a loss of RMB 200 million.
