China Unicom is likely to bid for a 3G licence based on CDMA2000 technology in Hong Kong. The company is presently evaluating the operating requirements and is in talks with several potential partners including City Telecom, Wharf T&T and Hutch Telecom. This will be the fifth 3G licence in Hong Kong.

The existing 3G licences are held by GSL, PCCW, SmarTone and Hutchison.
