China Telecom has reportedly established a European unit, China Telecom Europe, marking its move into the European telecom sector. It has also activated two network nodes in London and Frankfurt. The state-controlled Chinese fixed line operator will provide communications and networked IT services to Chinese business customers looking to move into Europe, and to European businesses expanding into Asia. The company plans to work with European telephony service providers, including British Telecom and Deutsche Telekom, to offer a range of services such as local area networks, conference calls and video conferencing. The company, however, has no plans for European acquisitions or a flotation of shares in its European operations.
