China Telecom, China Mobile and China Netcom have reportedly signed contracts with 15 mobile phone manufacturers to buy at least 9,000 TD-SCDMA mobile phones as part of a trial for 3G technology. They plan to purchase another 10,000 handsets in December 2006. The estimated sale price for the units is 2,500 yuan per handset. Of the 15 manufacturers, 12 are domestic, including ZTE, Levono and Datang. The remaining are overseas firms: LG, Samsung and Motorola.
