After prolonged discussions, the Luxembourg-based mobile operator Millicom International Cellular has reportedly called off the talks regarding the $5.3 billion takeover deal by China Mobile, China’s largest mobile carrier in terms of subscriber numbers. According to sources, the two companies could not decide on a final price. However, the Chinese company, which has been trying to build an international presence, will continue its search for overseas assets. A takeover of Millicom could have been the largest overseas acquisition by any Chinese company and the aborted bid leaves China Mobile with an unexpected additional $5.3 billion cash.
