
China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom have contracted Ericsson for upgrading their networks to enable services such as high speed broadband and high definition IPTV. Ericsson will roll out fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks for each of the operators using the Gigabit Passive Optical Network technology.
Ericsson will also provide a range of professional services such as competence development, network design and optimisation, support services and consultancy. Meanwhile, China Unicom has launched commercial 3G trials of its W-CDMA-based network in 44 more cities, raising the coverage to 100 cities.
