China Mobile and the China Broadcast Corporation, a subsidiary of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), have jointly launched commercial mobile TV services in the country using the China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting (CMMB) standard. The CMMB network covers 303 cities across China, offering access to six channels at an initial price of $0.88 per month. An estimated 845,000 CMMB-capable handsets have already been sold in the country. China Mobile and SARFT, which had signed an agreement in 2009 to jointlydevelop CMMB-based services, have set a target of acquiring 5 million subscribers by the end of the first year of launching the commercial mobile TV service.
