China-based ZTE has signed wireless CDMA (W-CDMA) contracts with two Asian mobile operators, Mongolia’s Skytel aswell as Spice Nepal. The contract with Skytel involves an overlay of a W-CDMA network on the existing CDMA service. ZTE will also provide Skytel with its soft defined radio (SDR) solution. Under the contract with Spice Nepal, ZTE will provide its SDR solution to help the operator set up a GSM/UMTS network in six main zones of Nepal. Phase I of the network will be ready by October 2009.
