The China-based manufacturer of mobile handsets, Gionee Global has earmarked a budget of Rs 200 million for branding and marketing its products in India over a period of one year.

The company debuted in India in March 2013 and has launched 15 mobile handsets (four feature phones and 11 smartphones) so far. These products are priced between Rs 1,800 and Rs 23,000.

Currently, Gionee is selling handsets in Rajasthan, Kerala, West Bengal and Punjab. Going forward, it plans to start selling in metros as well. Since March 2013, Gionee has sold 500,000 mobile phones in India. By February 2014, the company plans to sell another 500,000 mobile phones.

At present, the company retails its products from 2,100 multi-brand retail shops and over the next year it plans to make its products available at another 4,000 multi-brand retail shops. In addition, Gionee plans to set up 250 branded outlets in 2014 in its key markets.
