Chandan Gupta
Head, Data Centre BU, Web Werks-Iron Mountain Data Centers

Chandan Gupta comes with over two decades of experience in the data centre and IT infrastructure domain. Currently, he is serving as the head of the data centre business unit (BU) at Web Werks-Iron Mountain Data Centers. In this role, he leads the India co-location business and is responsible for the revenue growth and profitability, and P&L management. He is actively engaged in scaling the business by aligning the company’s offerings to market demands, particularly for hyperscalers and enterprise customers.

According to Gupta, data centres are becoming pivotal for enabling seamless connectivity and digital transformation. There are several drivers creating demand for data centres. “Firstly, the rapid 5G roll-out is driving demand for edge data centres to support low-latency services and internet of things (IoT) applications, especially in sectors like autonomous vehicles, smart cities and healthcare. Secondly, the rise of satellite internet and rural broadband initiatives will require robust interconnection infrastructure, opening avenues for co-location services. Thirdly, as telcos embrace artificial intelligence (AI), IoT and cloud-native technologies, their increasing data storage and processing needs will fuel growth in hyperscale and hybrid cloud data centres. Finally, industry consolidation and the shift to sustainable networks will also create opportunities for partnerships,” he adds.

At Web Werks, his roles include expanding capacity in key markets, achieving sustainability goals with renewable energy, and driving innovation through AI-ready and edge data centers.

In the past, Gupta has worked with several telecom and data centre players including Airtel, Reliance Communications, NextGen Data Centre and Global CloudXchange. Some of his career accomplishments include cultivating impactful partnerships, delivering innovative solutions and guiding organisations towards sustainable success by leveraging cutting-edge technologies like AI, cloud and 5G. He also places a strong emphasis on environmental, social and governance principles and energy efficiency.

When asked about his management style, he says that it blends strategic vision, empathy and performance-driven execution. He leads by example, fostering a culture of trust, open communication and empowerment while tailoring his approach to inspire individual performance and personal growth. Gupta holds an MBA. His key interests include developing sustainable and scalable infrastructure to address challenges like energy efficiency, rising operational costs and talent shortages while meeting the burgeoning demands of AI, cloud and digital transformation.
