The Centre for Public Interest Litigation, an NGO, has filed an application in the Supreme Court, questioning the Central Bureau of Investigation?s (CBI) decision not to book the Essar Group and its promoters in a case arising out of the 2G spectrum case.
Meanwhile, the NGO has said that this exclusion was facilitated by the intervention of various CBI officials.
The application stated, “The interference of Salman Khurshid, Minister of Law and Justice, is evident. He is publicly giving a clean chit to the Essar Group and Loop.?
“It is to be noted that this case is similar to that of Swan-Reliance, wherein the CBI has already filed charge-sheets against the officials of both companies. The charge sheets include charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The aforementioned developments are likely to weaken the prosecution case in the Swan-Reliance issue as well,” the NGO said.
