The government has allocated funds worth Rs 260 billion to install 25,000 telecom towers in the next 500 days. The move is in line with the country’s digitisation vision and to provide last mile connectivity.

The aforesaid amount will be utilised from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT’s) Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF). Meanwhile, the state-owned Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) will act as the implementing agency.

The funding was announced at the three-day conference of state information technology ministers on the sidelines of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022 in Delhi.
