Cellular operators such as Bharti Airtel, Hutchison Essar, BSNL and Idea Cellular have developed a common instant messaging services (IMS) platform. This will enable customers to instant message even while overseas or roaming in one of the member operator’s networks. The service, which may be called GSM Messenger, is expected to be launched commercially in March and will be offered to customers free of cost for the first three months.
