The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has ordered an investigation into allegations of abuse of dominance against Google.
Earlier in February 2020, a complaint was registered in relation to exclusive use of Google Pay (GPay) for buying apps and in-app purchases (IAPs) via the Play Store and pre-installation and prominence of Google Pay on Android smartphones.
Further, the complaint also alleged that Google leverages its control over the Play Store and the Android operating system (OS) to promote Google Pay over other competing apps. This amounts to abuse of its dominant position by Google, the complaint said.
The investigation will look into these allegations.
CCI has said that the director general has to complete the investigation and submit a report within 60 days.
