The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 10 million on Bharti Airtel for failing to adhere to the provisions of Section 6(2) of the Competition Act, 2002. The penalty relates to the company’s acquisition of a stake in Bharti Telemedia from Warbug Pincus subsidiary firm, Lion Meadow Investment Limited.

Earlier in March 2021, Bharti Airtel purchased a 20 per cent share in its direct-to-home (DTH) arm, Bharti Telemedia, from Warburg Pincus’ subsidiary Lion Meadow Investment Limited for a total consideration of Rs 31,260 million as a strategic action.

However, the company said it is reviewing the order and evaluating the next steps in this matter.
