The Central Bureau of Investigation is likely to question Kanimozhi, DMK MP and daughter of Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi, in connection with the spectrum issue, according to news reports.

It is believed that Kanimozhi is likely to be questioned on the flow of Rs 2.06 billion from Shahid Balwa’s DB Realty to Kalaignar TV. Balwa bought into Swan Telecom which was allegedly favoured by Raja with the 2G licences in 2008.

Kanimozhi with 20 per cent stake, is one of the directors of Kalaignar TV which was launched by DMK’s reigning family as a political project.

DB Realty has denied that there was any quid pro quo with Kalignar TV for the 2G licence. It has claimed that the money that reached Kalignar TV was for a deal which fell through. Balwa’s company has also claimed that Kalignar TV has since returned the amount.

The agency is also yet to take a decision on examining the MP’s mother as it doubts that the spouse of the Tamil Nadu chief minister may have actually been involved in running the company.

It is believed that Kanimozhi may also be questioned about a realty deal in Chennai in which a prime property was sold at a low rate to a Malaysian company. The CBI feels that the Malaysian concern could be fronting for someone involved in the 2G decisions.
