The Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) has asked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to furnish an explanation for why Loop Telecom received a pan-India mobile license, given that the operator did not fulfill the license eligibility criteria.
Prior to this, CAG had also asked the telecom department to explain why it overlooked several licence conditions when awarding pan-India mobile licenses to Unitech, Videocon and S Tel.
Reportedly, CAG?s comments may force the DoT to issue show-cause notices to these four companies for suppressing facts and providing misleading information in their applications.
