According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will start rolling out 5G services in 2024. The telco has shortlisted a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) for rolling out 4G network, which will be upgraded to 5G in about a year of placing the order under the contract.

Speaking at the launch of 5G services in Odisha, the minister also said that the entire state will be covered by 5G services in two years. He further informed that the central government has allocated around Rs 56 billion for strengthening the telecom connectivity in the state. 100 towers for 4G services covering 100 villages in Odisha have also been launched.
