Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is going to provide 4G connectivity to around 120 villages in tribal areas of Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts in Himachal Pradesh. Further, 450 km of optical fibre cable will be laid in the twin tribal districts of the state.

To provide high-speed digital connectivity powered by fibre in tribal areas, BSNL’s Himachal circle is executing a state-funded project worth Rs 500 million allotted under the Special Assistance to States for CAPEX (capital expenditure) Scheme during 2022-23.

Further, BSNL also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Himachal Pradesh government to engage skilled manpower available with technical institutions in the state for speeding up BSNL’s fibre rollout. To this end, copper wire is being replaced by optical fibre in the state and 1,300 operating sites are being technically upgraded while 250-300 new sites are being created.
