The Union Cabinet has reportedly approved an additional Rs 60 billion for Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited’s (MTNL’s) 4G expansion to address a shortfall in planned capital expenditure. The funds will be used to deploy approximately 1,00,000 4G sites across the country, which will improve coverage and service quality.

BSNL, which also manages MTNL’s operations in Delhi and Mumbai, has been losing customers due to the lack of pan-India 4G services. The company hopes to minimise user attrition once 4G services are rolled out across the country and is planning to launch 5G soon at select locations.
