BSNL is planning to increase its broadband customer base to 1 million by the end of the year. The company currently has 125,000 broadband customers. It also plans to increase its teledensity contribution to 11 from the present 4.52 by the end of financial year 2007-08. BSNL is in the process of bringing in multi-gigabit, multi-protocol, convergent IP infrastructure which will provide convergent services through the same backbone and different access networks such as wireline, cable, fibre or wireless. It is also planning to add more than 14,000 digital satellite phone terminals to provide connectivity to remote areas by shared access.
