Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has started to operate Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited’s (MTNL) telecom networks in Delhi and Mumbai metropolitans with effect from January 01, 2021.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had issued a circular regarding this.

The development has come in the backdrop of BSNL’s proposal that was sent to the DoT on October 27, 2020 wherein the operator had expressed interest in managing networks in Delhi and Mumbai circles on outsourced basis.

Earlier on December 15, 2020, a meeting had been held with the chiefs of both MTNL and BSNL and was chaired by DoT’s additional secretary Anita Pravin. Following that meeting, DoT had granted a unified license that included Delhi and Mumbai telecom service areas, making BSNL eligible to offer mobile and fixed line services in two metropolitans.
