Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Anna University (AU), Chennai, to create new growth opportunities for students and young professionals, and drive the public-private partnership in the telecom industry. The MoU also includes the expansion of BSNL’s 4G and 5G networks on the campuses.

BSNL highlighted that there is a substantial revenue potential in the telecom sector which is growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10 per cent in the country.

According to BSNL, its MoU with IIT Madras and AU encompasses various promising initiatives which include courses to enhance the skill sets of both students and young professionals. As a result, IIT Madras is launching a one-year international course in telecom technology and management in collaboration with BSNL in course design and delivery.

Additionally, short-term telecom technology courses (STTC) will be launched to bridge the gap between industry and academia to improve the employability of students.

BSNL will also expand its 4G and 5G networks to cover IIT-Madras and AU campuses in Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, and Nagercoil, with the intent to open doors for the remaining 450 colleges. BSNL has further committed to prioritising startups from IIT Madras Pravartak to offer them access to its extensive infrastructure and network solutions for business development.
