Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is reportedly looking for partners to provide last-mile connectivity to consumers under BharatNet, the government’s programme to extend broadband access to all gram panchayats in the country.
A memorandum of understanding was signed with the government of West Bengal in May 2026 to cover an additional 664-gram panchayats. Trenching and ducting work covering 450 kilometres was completed last month, with a target to lay a further 18,000 kilometres of cable over the next three years.
Further, areas already connected are expected to be upgraded by March 2027.
