Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has sought the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) nod to extend telecom infrastructure in the Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas.

With this, the telecom operator aims to offer seamless mobile services to the armed forces.

In its letter to DoT secretary Anshu Prakash dated October 16, 2020, BSNL said that it has been requesting for allotment of LWE-II project to BSNL on nomination basis, as the area envisaged in the project is overlapping with that of LWE-I project spanned over 10 states.

According to BSNL, it would be crucial to maintain homogeneity of the network in the area primarily being used by security personnel allowing the same SIM across the region and such could only be possible if BSNL is allowed to deploy an additional network.
