Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has reported an operating of Rs 15.59 billion, a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 65 per cent, during the fiscal year (FY) ended March 31, 2023. The operator’s loss before exceptional items narrowed to Rs 66.62 billion, a YoY improvement of 4.5 per cent. The total revenue for FY23 stood at Rs 206.99 billion, up 8.6 per cent from Rs 190.52 billion.

In his response to questions about the financial performance of BSNL in the Lok Sabha, Devusinh Chauhan, Union Minister of State for Communications, informed that BSNL has been earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) positive since FY21. He added that BSNL has issued purchase orders for 100,000 sites to roll out services using 4G/5G technology developed indigenously and that the government had approved the allotment of 4G/5G spectrum to BSNL with a total outlay of Rs 890.47 billion through equity infusion.

Chauhan said that with the implementation of the above measures, BSNL is expected to turn around with a net profit in FY27.
